Strategies to Slash Soybean Cyst Nematode Populations
This is a subtitle for your new post

Think a few years of corn-on-corn will eliminate soybean cyst nematode? Think again!
In a recent Farm Progress, Indiana Prairie Farmer article, Greene Crop Consulting's Danny Greene explains why managing SCN takes more than changing your crop rotation.
While SCN can't reproduce on corn, growing corn for multiple years won't eliminate it. Danny emphasizes the importance of combining multiple management strategies, including rotating soybean resistance sources, controlling winter annual weeds like purple deadnettle and henbit, and regularly sampling soil to monitor SCN populations.
One important consideration? Variety selection.
PI88788 remains the most common source of SCN resistance, but many SCN populations have become better able to reproduce on it. Danny recommends rotating soybean varieties with different resistance sources, such as Peking, when available.
The takeaway? There's no single solution to SCN management. Combining crop rotation, variety selection, weed management and regular soil sampling can help growers keep SCN populations in check and protect soybean yields.
